IMPORTANT FACTS TO KNOW
The standard currency is LKR (Sri Lankan Rupee) but foreign currencies are accepted at many places.
Credit and Debit cards are accepted at many places while it is also possible to take cash out at any ATM with any foreign card.
Restaurants provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
Bottled water is always more plentiful than tap water. Hotels and restaurants will provide clean drinking water.
Average temperature is about 30 Celsius around the country except in the hill country where it can go to a minimum of 14 Celsius.
Tipping is not compulsory but really admired to leave a nice tip to appreciate good service. (An average tip is 10% - 20% at a restaurant)
Everyone is expected to wear respectfully when entering a temple. Shoulders must be covered and knees must be covered, hats and footwear must be removed, light-colored attire is most suitable, patched jeans are allowed and no photographs posing back to religious statues.
